Frames for children's writing

Present the first and last lines of a page of a text as a writing frame for a small group of children to work within at the keyboard. This could be two lines from a story or information text, or a beginning and ending line you have written yourself. It provides a reassuring space for the writer to work in.

Collaborative writing is a very powerful activity for children . In this case, the children could 'reconstruct' a story they have read, or write a different narrative entirely. Children often find it much easier to start with a simple given structure than to stare at a blank screen or page waiting for inspiration.
