A History of St Wilfrid's Church from its pre-history to 1993. The book takes us through the story the Catholic community in Preston from 1700.

The book was written to celebrate the 200 years of the Church. The story of the church's founder, 'Daddy' Dunn, the priest who's picture graces the cover is certainly one of a man who knew what he wanted and was determined to get it. The book is particularly strong on the history of 19th Century Catholic Preston, and details the establishment of schools and a hospital in St Wilfrid's parish.

As its name suggests this book is a list from a census made in the year 1810 and 1820 by the Rev. Joseph (Daddy) Dunn.

On his rounds Fr Dunn listed all the Catholics he knew in the neighbourhood, their address, and in many cases how the people in a given house were related.
Where known, particularly in the 1820 census he adds the age.

This is not a reading book. It is of use for people who want to see if relatives or people they are researching were Catholics in the Preston area.

Remember that at the time of these census, St Wilfrid's was the only Catholic Church in Preston. So the list is fairly complete for the area that was then known as Preston.
