Frances is meticulous and thorough in her work, taking great joy from the natural development of each piece she produces. 

Born in Emsworth in 1941, she spent long weeks of her childhood travelling the fairs of Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset. Her historical/factual histories of the Matthews and Biddall families have become  modern day classics of their kind.

 The 'Fairground Strollers' book is an account of her father's side of the family. Typeset by Oakley Publishing, it was released in June 2001. The Fairfield Folk volume is now on the Second edition and has been on sale for the last fifteen years. It is now out of print, and fetches high prices second hand from collectors.
