Royal Navy U Class (Group 2) Submarine
The "U Class" were originally ordered by the Royal Navy in 1936 as 3 unarmed training ships, however with war looming a further 49 units were ordered as single hull coastal submarines. These boats had a shallow maximum diving depth of just 200ft and were not really suitable for use in the mediterranean (where quite a few were lost) owing to the clearness of the waters where they could be seen submerged on a fine day by spotter aircraft.
Most had four bow torpedo tubes, although four of the last build had a raised bow and two additional tubes fitted above the pressure hull under the casing.
Our set of white GRP mouldings consists of :The "U Class" is one of the models we have bought in from John Darnell of Darnell Models of Leavesdon.
This large scale twin screw model has been designed to operate on 4 channel radio control and can submerge from stationary, using an air pump system, or in motion, using forward dive speed.
When completed the mouldings make up into a large scale handsome and attractive large model typical of one of the Royal Navy WWII coastal type boats.
