This hull and plans pack is for the Victorian style open steam launch "SOLENT" she can be made as either an open cutter or with the removable canopy fitted, her large scale makes for a model with a reasonable displacement to take either a Vertical or Horizontal steam plant, with her high freeboard she is a good rough water model for those windy days down at the lake.
Our reduction off the plan shows this to be a fairly straight forward and functional model to build and has been primarily designed for simple construction with an exposed steam plant
This model was originally in the range manufactured by Ivor Broughton of "Boats & Models", this range is now owned by METCALF MOULDINGS
Our beautifully moulded white one piece GRP hull is moulded to top of bulwark level, very little work is required to get the hull ready for work. The one piece white GRP deck moulding is designed to fit over the top of the hull side sheer line and has a slight 'return' moulding around the hatch opening for strength purposes, jointed together the two make one very strong finished unit.
This is a newly drawn, full-size single sheet plan (drawn by David Metcalf) showing the elevations of the model and some construction detail, this plan used in conjunction with our "CONSTRUCTION MANUAL" will allow for a very nice jaunty looking model to be constructed by even the very beginner to our hobby.
Included is our unique "CONSTRUCTION MANUAL", this informative illustrated guide gives step-by-step instructions on how to fit out a typical GRP hull and is full of a wealth of useful hints and tips, as well as a list of other suppliers and manufacturers.
