P.B."AZTECA".
Vosper Thorneycroft Patrol Boat Design.
The "AZTECA" class was specifically designed to meet exacting multi-role requirements. The "AZTECA" class heralded a new era in the development of fast patrol craft, with a beam 30% greater than earlier patrol boat designs of the same length. Their excellent sea keeping design was proved by a trans Atlantic delivery voyage undertaken in severe weather conditions on delivery of one unit to the Mexican Navy in early 1976.
Our hull follows the full size design, round bilge aft with moulded knuckle forward, where-as the full size was made from welded steel our model hull is superbly moulded in GRP. The full size vessels were powered by Paxman diesels of either 3,600bhp or 4,800bhp, both set-ups giving speeds in excess of 30knots, this performance can be equally achieved using `540' type motors to power our hull.
The model is comparatively easy to build, however appearance on the water is attractive, with a removable superstructure, interior access is good and the hull will take quite bad weather conditions, making her a good regatta model a little bit out of the ordinary.
