T.S.M.V. Balmoral

Twin Screw Diesel Motor Vessel

"M.S.BALMORAL" was built at Thorneycrofts in Southampton and was launched on the 27th June 1949 for Red Funnel Steamers (Southampton, Isle of Wight & South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Co.,Ltd.) as a passenger and car ferry to operate from Southampton to the Isle of Wight. Her design is said to have been influenced by the recently completed motor yacht built for Lord & Lady Docker, what ever the truth the resultant design of the "BALMORAL" makes for one of the most beautiful vessels of her period. Now owned by the `Paddle Steamer Preservation Society' she is a familiar sight around the coast giving pleasure cruises and excursions.

The full-size plan shows the "BALMORAL" as originally built with after car deck, but she is easily modified to her present design. Fitted with R/C and twin screw electric propulsion she looks and performs really nicely on the water.
