THINKING of starting your own business - a small hotel or bed and breakfast establishment.

It’s your dream but without a little help could become a nightmare.

We can guide you through the do’s and dont’s of running a small hotel business.

Get it right and it’s a rewarding lifestyle - independence, doing what you want to do, where you want to do it.

But it’s hard work. The guests may be out enjoying themselves - you are the one who has just cooked everyone’s breakfast, with the toilet brush in your hands, eight bedrooms to turn round before lunchtime - and that’s just the start of the day.

We don’t pull any punches in telling you just how it’s going to be - and it’s not a lifestyle for the faint hearted.

GO FOR IT if you:

Like people and don’t mind hard work.

Have a properly thought out business plan.

Walk into it with your eyes wide open.

DON’T DO IT if you:

Think it will be an easy option.

Quite like children but couldn’t eat a whole one.

Think it’s going to make your fortune - it won’t.

We will put a spotlight on your plan. You are about to invest a lot of money - maybe even your life savings, so it’s crucial to get it right.

We don’t offer any guarantees - and the best laid plans can go wrong - but we hope to get you off to a flying start - or save you making the worst mistake of your life.

What do we know?

Ian Marrow andGeorgina successfully ran a restaurant before turning what was a long established but run-down 10-bed hotel  into a thriving business turning people away.

Mistakes we made a few - and during the two-day course there will be quite a few to mention. We can help stop you making those mistakes - giving you the benefit of our hindsight.

Georgina also worked for many years in corporate hospitality and conference management for some of the major merchant banks and legal firms in the city of Manchester.

Ian was a journalist - working for some of Britain’s biggest regional titles and freelancing for all the national newspapers, with a specific background in transport, the environment and  travel writing.

We hold two day courses -  covering all the basics from raising finance and set-up costs,  basic accounting, marketing and the day to day running of the establishment, including finding your way through the maze of regulations  -  planning, licences, fire certificate, weights and measures and environmental health.

We are based in Manchester, running two-day courses every month. Prices are £200 per person for the two-day course, or £300 for a couple. Accommodation can be arranged. Course fees include full content note and refreshments are included.
