Felix Ritchie

Felix Ritchie is an economist, dancer, IT guru, portable cocktail party, and overall bon viveur.

Since November 2002 he has been employed at the UK Office of National Statistics, where he is currently Head of Microeconomic Analysis and Deputy Director of Social and Economic Micro Analysis and Reporting Division. As the instigator of and driving force behind the Virtual Microdata Laboratory, he has been instrumental in making the UK international leaders in the secure but efficient use of confidential data for research. He has been an invited speaker at academic and government conferences in Austria, France, Luxembourg, Germany, the US and the UK; and in 2006 went to Canada and New Zealand as an Expert Reviewer. See here for a list of recent related publications (but note that this doesn't include those from his previous life as a lecturer as those are too few and far away to worry about).

Felix also occasionally provides teaching services for Trig Consulting, a small consultancy specialising in strategic planning, economic advice, financial systems (including middleware and STP), project management and appraisal, internet consultancy (including webcasting and multimedia), and web/virtual conferencing. Felix's speciality is teaching econometrics and programming (theory and practice, statistical and technical), and internet development.

His leisure interests include opera, fencing, and zooming around the continent whenever funds and time allow. He occasionally shares his house with Smudge. Smudge is a well known (some say infamous) stunt cat, fluent in English, Scottish, Norwegian and German, and currently studying Welsh. He also comes in road-going and non-bio versions. Smudge is currently relocated to live with Little Smudge, and the vacancy for Felis Egregious is currently being filled by two small furry cows called Froglet and Toadlet.

Felix is a keen dancer, particularly
  • modern jive (also known as french jive, or one of the many trademarked names such as Ceroc or LeRoc)
  • salsa
  • argentine tango
  • Scottish ceilidh dancing
His other main interest is in food and drink, and he is the evil genius behind The Cocktail Machine (implemented by Unlinkable Dave, worth a recommendation), a site dedicated to the construction of interesting beverages in a selection of colours. And no umbrellas. His most recent project has been to advise Cardiff Wine Tasting Society on their website.
