Credit Card Security - Be Warned!
Be warned, credit card fraud (both as a result of the Internet
and generally) is up! When you send credit card details over the
Internet, you may well find a few extra items on your bill!
Even when you use a secure server connection, if your PC has been
infected with certain "mobile code viruses", the information
you send over the secure connection may be Ok, but your cc details
may also be sent secretly behind this "secure" connection!
(We use and recommend the virus checker / security system esafe
as this also blocks mobile code). But not only that, what if the
travel agent you send your credit card details have their own staff
or IT security problems?
When you make a request on our direct reservations service / system,
you are not required to provide your credit card details.
If the hotel / villa owner requires them for deposit or confirmation
purposes, they will ask you for them. And you may fax these directly
to them, rather than use the Internet, as this is a far safer medium.
And if you think we are just trying to undermine secure server technology
because we don't have it. If you check the company that hosts this
site, Digiserve, you will
see it is available to us and at no extra cost!
We genuinely believe sending credit card details by fax rather than
by the Internet / e-mail is infinitely more secure. Not least because
the information is likely to only stay in printed form, not on someone's
PC. And if you doubt us on this, ask you credit card company what
they think / advise?!
This is also why we chose the alternative 3rd party reservations
service and local villa management agent we did. Because the hotel
reservations site that compliments & supplements our own direct
hotel offerings also allows you to provide your credit card
details by fax. And the villa management agent we use, who handles
some of the private holiday homes on our site for their owners,
rarely
deals with credit cards anyway.
